Social media consumption patterns have increasingly shifted from broad, algorithmically generated feeds toward focused, interest-based discussion communities. In response to this trend, Meta Platforms engineered Forum, a Facebook app. The application unbundles the Facebook Groups infrastructure from the primary Facebook client, creating a dedicated workspace centered entirely on community discussions, topic-based Q&As, and niche shared interests.

The design of Forum addresses common friction points found in general-purpose social networks, where community discussions often get buried under short-form video reels, brand promotions, and general social updates. When logging in with their Facebook account, users automatically sync their existing group memberships, administrative roles, and participation history without having to rebuild a social graph. To encourage candid participation, Forum introduces pseudonymous posting, allowing members to post under customized nicknames in participating groups while maintaining backend account integrity. All interactions, threads, and comments remain synchronized with the core Facebook platform, ensuring that discussions stay updated regardless of which client members use.

For group administrators and moderators, Forum integrates a dedicated Admin AI assistant directly into community management workflows. This tool assists with content triage, flags violations of group rules, summarizes lengthy discussion threads, and helps manage high-traffic communities. By separating group interactions from the main social feed, Forum provides a focused environment for in-depth discussions, peer advice, and hobby-focused exchanges.
