Overview

Soul Land: New World, developed by LING CHAI (HONG KONG) LIMITED, is an open-world fantasy MMORPG built on the Soul Land (Douluo Dalu) multimedia franchise. Unlike earlier mobile adaptations of the IP that used automated side-scrolling progression or turn-based combat, this game is structured as a full 3D open-world MMORPG. Players explore an interconnected fantasy continent featuring dynamic ecosystems, hidden ruins, environmental puzzles, and real-time territorial warfare.

The core of the game is its classless Martial Soul system. Instead of locking players into standard fantasy classes, each character awakens a Martial Soul classified as either a Weapon Soul or a Beast Soul. Weapon Souls emphasize offensive weapon combinations, rapid movement, and crowd-control abilities, while Beast Souls allow players to temporarily take on bestial aspects, gaining defensive bonuses, altered appearances, and enhanced melee skills.

This classless foundation ties directly into the game's Soul Beast hunting loop. Players track and defeat wild beasts across the world to absorb their Soul Rings, unlocking and shaping their combat skills. These skills and stat bonuses scale according to the age tier of the absorbed ring:

  • White Rings (Ten-Year Tier): Basic introductory traits and entry-level combat bonuses.
  • Yellow Rings (Hundred-Year Tier): Core early abilities with moderate cooldowns.
  • Purple Rings (Thousand-Year Tier): Mid-tier skills introducing effects like stuns, bleeds, and area damage.
  • Black Rings (Ten-Thousand-Year Tier): Powerful skills capable of swinging the tide of high-level battles.
  • Red Rings (Hundred-Thousand-Year+ Tier): Rare endgame abilities that grant massive stat boosts and high-damage attacks.

Because players can freely combine different Soul Rings across their active skill slots, characters with the same base Martial Soul can run very different builds, such as a defensive tank or a fast-paced burst attacker.

On the technical side, the engine is built to support large-scale multiplayer engagements. In addition to five-player group instances and ten-player raids, the netcode supports large guild battles with up to 400 players fighting in the same open-world zone. Guilds compete for resource nodes, fight for regional keeps, and tackle open-world bosses that require careful positioning and phase management.

However, the game's global rollout has faced operational and localization challenges. The English script includes awkward phrasing, inconsistent skill descriptions, and occasional untranslated text. Furthermore, the publisher uses an aggressive server launch schedule, opening new servers on an almost daily basis. While this gives new players fresh leaderboards, it frequently splits up friend groups and guilds across different servers with no free character transfer options.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Flexible Classless Progression: Players build customized skill kits via the Martial Soul system instead of being locked into fixed classes.

  • Lore-Accurate Soul Ring System: Hunting Soul Beasts directly rewards tiered rings (White through Red) that unlock and upgrade character abilities.

  • Vast 3D Open-World Design: Features diverse biomes, dynamic weather cycles, hidden treasure chests, and puzzle ruins to explore.

  • Large-Scale PvP Engagements: Game servers support large field conflicts with up to 400 players fighting in real time.

  • Generous Launch Rewards: New player rewards and launch incentives provide early summons to help free-to-play users secure core SSR cards.

Cons
  • Unpolished English Localization: The script contains awkward phrasing, inconsistent naming conventions, and incomplete text formatting.

  • Fragmented Server Model: Opening new servers daily splits the player base and makes it difficult for friends on different servers to play together.

  • Peak-Hour Connection Dropouts: Players can experience connection errors and login authentication issues during high-traffic periods.

  • High Battery and Thermal Demands: Rendering the 3D open world causes significant battery drain and thermal throttling on mid-tier hardware.

FAQs

How does character progression work without traditional MMORPG classes?

Progression is based on your chosen Martial Soul (Weapon or Beast) and the specific Soul Rings you absorb from defeated monsters to unlock skills.

What do the different Soul Ring colors mean in combat?

Colors represent the age and rarity of the beast—ranging from White (Ten-Year) to Red (Hundred-Thousand-Year)—with higher tiers offering better stats and skills.

Can characters be transferred between different regional servers?

No. Characters are currently locked to the specific numeric server where they were created, with no server-transfer service available.

What hardware is required to run the game smoothly?

While Android 6.0 is the minimum requirement, playing with stable frame rates requires an octa-core processor, at least 6GB of RAM, and ample internal storage.

Do players need to be familiar with the original novels to follow the story?

No. The main story quest introduces the world, lore, and characters from the ground up, making the plot easy to follow for newcomers.

Hot Reviews

Immersive Visuals and Lore-Accurate World Design
★★★★★

The world scale, environments, and beast transformation effects look impressive on modern hardware. Hunting down massive Soul Beasts alongside guildmates feels authentic to the franchise.

Rough and Inconsistent English Translation
★★★★★

While the combat mechanics are fun, the English localization is rough around the edges. Important story dialogues and ability tooltips often read like unedited machine translations.

Excessive Server Sharding Limits Community Building
★★★★★

Launching new servers daily splinters the community too quickly. If a friend starts playing even a couple of days later, you often have to abandon your character and start over to play together.

Occasional Connection Drops During Dungeons
★★★★★

The large-scale combat is exciting, but server connection drops during world boss fights can be frustrating. Improving server stability should be a clear priority for upcoming patches.
