Developed by Brave HK Limited, Sand Sorting Challenge builds upon the popular liquid-sorting puzzle subgenre. Instead of matching continuous, uniform cellular blocks of fluid, this game implements a granular sand simulation with distinct particle physics. Players tap to select a container and tilt it to pour its top-layered sand into another bottle. The mechanics are governed by physical space constraints and color-matching rules. Sand can only be poured into a bottle that has matching sand at the top, and there must be sufficient physical space in the target container to hold the incoming material.

The game uses a detailed 3D physics engine to simulate the flowing motion of sand, creating a satisfying, tactile experience. The soothing visual loop is complemented by a therapeutic audio design featuring ambient soundtracks and relaxing pouring sounds, making the game popular as an anti-stress experience.

To sustain engagement, Sand Sorting Challenge maintains a progression loop where players earn rewards to unlock custom cosmetics, such as unique bottle shapes and visual color themes. However, the game has received criticism regarding its difficulty curve and technical performance.

A major design issue is the abrupt introduction of "hidden sand colors" early in the level progression. In these levels, the player cannot see the colors of the lower sand layers until the top sand is removed. This mechanic shifts the game from a strategic puzzle to a game of chance, leading to artificial difficulty spikes that frustrate players.

Additionally, players have reported technical bugs in the economy system, such as completed levels failing to award coins, which prevents players from purchasing cosmetics or accessing puzzle tips.
